Infection Control Innovations
One cornerstone of Synergy Health’s
infection control range is the introduction of
Byotrol™
anti-microbial technology to enhance active infection control in
the Azo™,
Assure™ and
Oasis™ products. The
introduction of the Byotrol technology
helps reduce transmission of infection through contact with hard
surfaces and skin by delivering residual anti-microbial performance
against resistant and difficult to kill organisms such as MRSA and
C. difficile, even after the application of products to
skin and surfaces has dried.
The Byotrol technology is currently
being piloted at a leading teaching hospital in the North West of
England and the study is being supervised by TrusTECH, the NHS’s
innovation hub in the North West.

The study is evaluating Byotrol
technology against a standard cleaning regime in a clinical setting
and to date the study has shown extremely promising initial
results.
The Byotrol technology has also
enjoyed considerable success when used in a healthcare setting in
the United States. Two years ago, The Monroe Hospital in
Bloomington Indiana deployed a range of hard surface cleaners,
wipes and a mousse containing the technology. Since this
introduction there has not been a single case of hospital acquired
infection of any sort.
The Synergy Health range of products containing this technology
comprises:
-
AzoActive™ and
AzoMaxActive™ - wipes and sprays that
provide immediate and residual antimicrobial action on a wide range
of surfaces in hospital wards and other acute care settings.
-
AzoActive - hard surface disinfectant
wipes and sprays – a range of non-hazardous, non-corrosive and
non-tainting disinfectants suitable for a wide range of
surfaces.
-
AzoMaxActive - a hard surface
disinfectant wipe and spray with detergent which cleans and
disinfects in one go.
-
Oasis Active
skin cleansing wipes – gently moisturise the skin and provide
residual cleansing.
-
Assure
antimicrobial hand mousse – delivers effective protection
against cross infection, requiring no water or rinsing. Ultra low
alcohol leaves hands soft and moisturised and an effective barrier
film for long-lasting protection.
Showcasing a patient hygiene breakthrough, Synergy Health will
also present its Oasis waterless bathing
system, comprising soft, strong cleansing wipes and a
anti-bacterial shampoo cap, together with a new warmer.
The waterless bathing system has been
developed to simplify in-bed patient cleansing procedures. With
anti-bacterial performance, it can play an important role in part
of a hospital’s overall infection prevention and control
strategy.
The shampoo cap, impregnated with a
gentle conditioning shampoo, is simply micro-waved for 20 seconds
and then massaged on the patient’s head for around 2 minutes,
leaving the patient’s hair clean and towel dry.
other leading solution in Synergy
Health’s infection prevention and control range is its
environmental decontamination product, the AirCleanse™ system and this being
exhibited at the show alongside the Azo,
Assure and Oasis products.
AirCleanse technology has been
developed to remove harmful pathogens from the air. And has been
shown to be effective against a broad spectrum of organisms
including SARS, C.difficile, MRSA and TB.
The
AirCleanse unit creates an airflow
through the Close Coupled Field Technology (CCFT), actively
sterilising the air and physically breaking down viruses, bacteria
and mould spores, thus rendering them harmless. All air in the
system then passes through a High Air Flow (HAF) filter media – an
electrostatic filter system, removing any suspended particulates as
small as 0.1 microns.
The system’s high flow rate permits
the effective treatment of large volumes of air, therefore
providing active protection from airborne pathogens, and delivering
a significant advance in the area of airborne infection control.
Portable and surface mountable, the
AirCleanse System is cost effective to
install and has a low power consumption.

Compression Solutions for Venous Disorders
Comfipression hosiery and liner kits
give patients suffering from chronic venous insufficiency,
including recurrent leg ulcers, oedema and varicose veins, the
option of a cost effective alternative in place of traditional,
multilayer compression bandage systems.
The Comfipression range comprises two
kits – a hosiery kit and a liner kit. The 10mmHg liners are soft to
the touch, facilitating the smooth application of the 30mmHg
hosiery stocking, hence saving clinician time and making self
application easier.
Available in a range of sizes and discreet and comfortable to
wear under clothing, the Comfipression
hosiery kit consistently applies a known pressure of 40mmHg to the
ankle, therefore avoiding the risk of applying sub-optimal
compression.
Synergy Health will also be showcasing its Comfifast Easywrap™
suits range - a breakthrough treatment to control recurring
flare ups for patients with moderate to severe atopic eczema.

Spearheading the new range of Comfifast
Easywrap suits for adult eczema sufferers, in
conjunction with the suits and tubular bandages already available
for both children and teenagers, Synergy Health’s new adult suits
consist of a long sleeve vest and leggings which are lightweight,
breathable, stretchy and machine washable up to 30 times, giving
eczema sufferers hygienic protection whilst reducing the temptation
to scratch, during the day and at night.
As Anne Macmillan, Sales &
Marketing Director for Synergy Health points out:
"The range and diversity of
solutions we are showcasing here at Medica highlight why we have
become the partner of choice to many healthcare
providers."
"We have worked hard to develop
and test an innovative range of products that deliver clear and
measurable benefits to the marketplace. We are confident we will
see widespread adoption of these technologies in the months
ahead." Anne Macmillan adds.
