Employee Assistance Programme
As part of our strategy to
continually grow our service offering, Synergy Health
Laboratory Services are pleased to announce that we are now able to
supply a multi-layered Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to our
clients.
What is an EAP?
An Employee Assistance Programme
(EAP) is an employee benefit programme intended to help employees
deal with personal problems that might adversely impact their
health, wellbeing and ultimately, their work performance.
Our full, thorough EAP consists of
advice and guidance on a wide range of topics including legal
issues, finance and debt matters and even more specialist advice on
areas such as family concerns, housing queries, redundancy and
divorce. As well as an online archive of information, the
Employee Assistance Programme offers a fully manned telephone
advice line which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and
the provision for confidential, face-to-face counselling should it
be required.
Why have an EAP?
Stress in the workplace is a major concern for all
employers. Employees suffering from stress are proven to be
less productive and independent research has identified stress or
emotional and psychological issues as being responsible for up to
half of all sickness absence. The Health and Safety Executive
estimates that stress related absence costs organisations on
average £400 per employee per annum.
Increasingly, the stresses employees can experience are not
only generated in the workplace but come as a result of domestic
and non-work related issues. A comprehensive EAP can play a
pivitol role in eradicating employees stress and increasing
workplace productivity. A study by the Confederation of
British Industry (CBI) found 34% less absence in organisations with
workplace counselling than those without and it also concluded that
workplace counselling was highly effective in improving the general
level of functioning among staff.
While there is a cost to the organisation to provide the service
to its employees, studies show there is a significant return on
investment to be made. The general consensus of these
studies, supported by the CBI and the HSE, is that a return of up
to 4:1 can be expected.
