George Howarth visits sterile service facility providing service to the St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to consider best practice in the standards of clinical cleanliness

Local MP George Howarth (Knowsley) took time out of his schedule to visit the Sterile Service facility operated by Synergy Health, delivering services to St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as the standard of cleanliness in hospitals continues to be debated and remains high on the political agenda.

Mr Howarth was invited by Kevin Holder, Managing Director of Hospital Sterilisation Services (Europe & Middle East), for an exclusive behind the scenes tour in order to demonstrate Synergy’s decontamination services as a best practice benchmark for other hospitals and how this improves service and quality as well as significantly reduced operating costs.

Synergy Health is a global leader in specialist outsourced services to healthcare providers and provides vital services supporting  the health and cleanliness of the trust, the standard of which have a direct impact upon Mr Howarth’s constituents in Knowsley.

Mr Howarth commented: “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to visit Synergy Health’s facility in Knowsley. I was impressed that Synergy Health makes a great contribution both in terms of jobs and to the National Health Service. Furthermore, Synergy Health can be especially proud of its apprenticeship and training schemes. It is great to see a successful company placing such an emphasis on nurturing local talent in Knowsley.”

The hospital sterilisation service facility in Knowsley is vitally important to the health and cleanliness of the hospitals of the St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Kevin Holder commented: “We are delighted that Mr Howarth responded to our invitation and can see what excellence in standards and facilities looks like behind the scenes. We feel very strongly that the cost savings demanded in the healthcare sector should not impact the standards of clinical cleanliness and patient care that should be delivered. Delivering excellent standards of clinical cleanliness should be top of the agenda for health service providers. We shall continue to invite interested parties for behind the scenes tours to ensure that delivering excellence remains at the forefront of the healthcare agenda.”
